About wrinkle relaxers
What are wrinkle relaxers?
Wrinkle relaxers are injectable treatments that reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines. Also known as neuromodulators, they work by utilizing the neurotoxin botulinum toxin Type A, commonly referred to as “Botox”, which temporarily blocks nerve signals to relax the muscle contractions that cause wrinkles on the face.
The most commonly treated areas are the forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the corners of the eyes. In addition to smoothing wrinkles and softening your expression, wrinkle relaxers improve skin texture, giving you a smoother complexion and more youthful look overall.

Wrinkle relaxers candidacy
Am I a good candidate for wrinkle relaxers?
Candidates for wrinkle relaxers are generally adults over 18 years old, in good health, with unwanted facial wrinkles or neck lines. These treatments work best on dynamic wrinkles caused by facial movements like smiling or frowning.
During a consultation, we’ll review your medical history and the areas you want to treat to confirm wrinkle relaxers are right for you. Although risks are low, they may not be suitable for those with certain allergies, skin issues, or underlying neurological conditions.
While wrinkle relaxers can also help with migraines, jaw pain (TMJ), and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis), they are primarily used for wrinkle reduction. You can combine them with fillers, chemical peels, or microneedling to further enhance results and help prevent the formation of new wrinkles and fine lines.

WITH WRINKLE RELAXERS, WE CAN FIX:

About wrinkle relaxers
Types of wrinkle relaxers
There are several types of wrinkle relaxers including Botox®, Dysport®, Xeomin®, Jeuveau® and Daxxify®. At our office, we carry two of the most widely used and effective brands: Botox and Dysport. Both contain botulinum toxin Type A as their active ingredient, but they have different formulations that work best for treating different areas. During your consultation, we’ll determine which option is best for your needs.
Botox is formulated with an accompanying protein that helps keep the product more localized, making it ideal for treating smaller, targeted areas like forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, and laugh lines. Typically, Botox results can last around three to four months.
Dysport contains a similar protein as Botox but a slightly different formulation that makes it diffuse more broadly, which is better for treating larger areas, such as the forehead and frown lines between the eyebrows. Dysport often shows faster results than Botox, sometimes within just a day or two, and its effects can last about three to four months as well.

Expectations
What to expect throughout your wrinkle relaxer treatment
All of our wrinkle relaxer injections are performed by a plastic surgeon or medical professional who specializes in cosmetic injections.
No anesthesia is required for the injections. You may request a topical anesthetic to numb the area prior to treatment, although most patients find this is not necessary.
We will use a very fine needle to strategically inject small amounts of the neuromodulator into specific muscle areas in a way that preserves your natural facial expressions. You may feel a slight pinch during the injections. Each session typically takes less than 15 minutes, with the number of injections varying based on the areas being treated.

Wrinkle relaxers recovery
Results and recovery process
There is no downtime after wrinkle relaxer injections. However, you’ll need to avoid exercise, stay upright for the rest of the day, and avoid touching the treated areas to prevent product migration.
You might experience mild redness, bruising, or swelling at the injection sites, but these effects usually fade quickly.
Results can appear as soon as two to three days, with the full effect typically visible within a week. Effects generally last between three to four months, depending on the product, treatment area, and the individual.

Wrinkle relaxers cost
How much does Botox cost?
The cost can vary based on factors such as the brand used, the area being treated, and the number of units required.
For example, Botox is dosed differently than Dysport, requiring fewer units are needed to achieve the same results. Generally, 1 unit of Botox is equivalent to 3 units of Dysport. Although Dysport is less expensive per unit, the total treatment cost tends to be similar to Botox, as more Dysport units are required to reach the desired effect.
Other factors that can influence the cost include the experience and qualifications of the provider, the length of the treatment session, and the office location.
Insurance coverage for wrinkle relaxers
Insurance typically doesn’t cover wrinkle relaxers for cosmetic use. However, injections may be approved if they’re medically necessary, such as for treating chronic migraines, muscle disorders, or excessive sweating. For cosmetic treatments, you’ll likely need to pay out of pocket, but we do offer financing options to help make them more affordable.

Frequently Asked Questions
Botox is a brand name for a wrinkle relaxer that uses botulinum toxin to temporarily reduce the appearance of wrinkles by relaxing the muscles that cause them. Wrinkle relaxers, as a general term, include Botox and other similar products (like Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau) that work in the same way to smooth out lines and wrinkles on the face.
Most patients see full results within three to seven days after treatment, depending on the individual, the area treated, and the product used with full results being visible at two weeks.
The effects of wrinkle relaxers usually last between three to six months for most brands. This varies by product, the area treated, and the patient's individual response.
Botox injections are generally not painful, as the needles used are extremely small. Most patients experience little to no discomfort, and many say the injections feel like a small pinch.
Common side effects of wrinkle relaxers can include mild swelling, redness, or bruising at the injection site. In rare cases, patients may experience headaches, drooping eyelids, or asymmetry in facial expressions. These side effects are usually temporary and subside within a few days to a week.
When you stop using Botox, your muscles will gradually regain their normal activity. This means that over time, wrinkles may start to reappear and will eventually return to their original appearance prior to treatment. There are no long-term effects from stopping use, and wrinkles will not worsen beyond what is typical for natural aging.
