Chin Liposuction FAQ

Submental liposuction, often called chin and neck lipo, is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that removes excess fat deposits from beneath the chin and along the upper neck. It utilizes a thin suction tube called a cannula to permanently eliminate a double chin and sculpt a sharper, more defined jawline and profile.

You may be a good candidate if you are in good general health, have realistic expectations, and are bothered by stubborn fat under your chin that does not respond to diet or exercise. Ideal candidates should also have good skin elasticity so the skin can snap back smoothly over the new, sculpted contours after fat removal.

The results of submental liposuction are permanent because the fat cells removed during the procedure do not grow back. While the new contours are long-lasting, maintaining a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle is essential, as remaining fat cells in the area can still expand with future weight gain.

The procedure is often performed under local anesthesia or mild sedation, ensuring you feel no pain during the surgery. Some mild soreness, swelling, and a feeling of tightness are normal during the initial recovery period, but any discomfort is easily managed with prescribed or over-the-counter pain medication.

Most patients only need to take about three to five days off work, depending on the physical demands of their job and personal comfort levels. While mild swelling and bruising may persist for one to two weeks, you can generally resume light, non-strenuous daily activities within just a few days.
