About Brazilian butt lift

What is a Brazilian butt lift?

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) is a cosmetic surgery procedure that enhances the size and shape of the buttocks without the use of implants. This procedure uses liposuction to remove excess fat from the abdomen, back, or thighs, and then transfers the fat to the buttocks to create a rounded, more lifted, aesthetically pleasing shape (fat transfer).

A BBL can bring in the waist, flatten the stomach, and increase butt volume and projection, effectively sculpting the torso and achieving the coveted hourglass figure.

Brazilian butt lift candidacy

Am I a good candidate for a Brazilian butt lift?

The best candidates for a BBL are those who have enough fat in areas such as the abdomen and transfer to the buttocks. Patients who are very lean may not have enough fat to harvest and butt implants or injectables may be a more suitable option to achieve the volume desired. Ideal candidates are healthy adults with realistic expectations who have good skin elasticity.

At your initial consultation, we will review your medical history and personal goals to determine if you are a good candidate.

WITH A BRAZILIAN BUTT LIFT (BBL), WE CAN FIX:

  • Excess, unwanted fat in the thighs, back or belly

  • Flat buttocks that lacks shape

  • Hip dips

  • Lack of curves of the lower body

  • Overall balance between the upper and lower body

About Brazilian butt lift

Types of Brazilian butt lift procedures

We use a series of liposuction and body contouring techniques during a BBL, typically in this order: Tumescent, VASER, MicroAire, and Renuvion.

Tumescent is a medicated solution of epinephrine and lidocaine and epinephrine. This solution reduces pain and blood loss during the liposuction process.

VASER liposuction utilizes ultrasonic technology to dislodge fat cells from connective tissues.

This makes it easier for your surgeon to extract the fat without excessive trauma to the surrounding areas, resulting in less blood loss, bruising, and pain.

Power-assisted liposuction with MicroAire utilizes powdered vibrating suction to optimize fat extraction. This technique allows for increased precision and speed.

After liposuction, we typically use Renuvion technology to tighten the skin and soft tissues. This final step significantly improves results, offering a smoother, more toned appearance.

Expectations

What to expect throughout your Brazilian Butt Lift procedure

A Brazilian butt lift is typically performed under general anesthesia where you’re asleep to ensure maximum comfort. During surgery, we will use liposuction to remove fat from the abdomen, flanks, lower back or other areas. Once the fat is removed, it is purified and prepared for transfer. Your cosmetic surgeon will strategically inject the purified fat into specific points to shape the buttocks and increase volume. Incisions are carefully closed with sutures. The procedure can take anywhere from two to four hours in total.

Our team will guide you through all of the steps before surgery to make sure you are well informed and prepared for surgery.

Brazilian butt lift recovery

Results and recovery process

The initial recovery process typically spans two weeks, during which you’ll need to avoid sitting or lying directly on your buttocks. Between two to six weeks post-surgery, you may sit with a BBL pillow. The goal is to reduce pressure on the buttocks and hips as much as possible to minimize shrinking. You’ll be able to sit normally after about eight weeks.

Pain is typically minimal and most patients are off pain medications within 48 to 72 hours after surgery. You may need to wear a compression garment for three months after a BBL to reduce swelling. We also recommend lymphatic and self-massage post-surgery to help reduce scarring, minimize contour irregularities, and speed up your recovery. Most patients return to work within a week and can resume lower body exercises after six weeks.

A portion of the injected fat will not “take” to its new location. Your surgeon will account for this by injecting slightly more fat than needed to ensure we achieve the right volume. You can expect to see your final results within six months, once residual swelling has resolved and healing is complete.

Brazilian butt lift cost

How much does a Brazilian butt lift cost?

The cost of a BBL reflects the comprehensive nature of the procedure, which combines liposuction and fat transfer to enhance your body’s contours. We use Liposuction 360 of the abdomen, waist, and back, followed by fat grafting to the butt. Our approach also typically includes a Renuvion skin tightening treatment to further enhance the results.

The price increases as Body Mass Index (BMI) increases, as more fat needs to be removed, which extends the duration of the procedure.

Insurance coverage for a Brazilian butt lift

Insurance will typically not cover BBL surgery because it is not medically necessary. We offer financing options to help patients pay for their procedure, which we can discuss with you during your consultation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Final results typically become visible around one year after surgery. Initial swelling will decrease around two weeks post-op, with a gradual process called "fluffing" occurring as fat cells incorporate and grow, leading to fuller and rounder buttocks.

The amount of fat that can be transferred depends on how much fat is available, the amount of fat the buttocks can hold, and your desired size and shape. It's essential to have enough fat for removal, while also ensuring your skin can stretch to accommodate the transferred fat.

The results of a Brazilian butt lift are long-lasting. The transferred fat that survives becomes permanent, however these fat cells will still increase or decrease in size with any significant weight gain or loss.

After six weeks, the transferred fat cells that survive are permanent and you won’t lose them. However, they can reduce in size with weight loss. You can resume lower body workouts after six weeks, but if you lose weight, you may notice a decrease in volume, as the fat cells will behave like any other fat on your body.

A BBL can flatten your tummy by removing excess fat on the abdomen through liposuction. During your consultation, we’ll discuss how much flatness can be achieved through liposuction alone and whether additional procedures may be necessary to meet your goals.
