Breast Lift in Newport Beach

A breast lift helps you restore perkier breasts. Aging, childbearing, and weight loss can lead to sagging, but a breast lift reshapes and elevates your breasts, giving them a more youthful contour.

About breast lift

What is a breast lift?

A breast lift, medically known as mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breasts, the medical term for sagging is ptosis or ptotic breasts. By raising the position of the nipples, reshaping the breast tissue, removing excess skin, and tightening the remaining skin, a breast lift restores firmness and a more youthful breast contour. This procedure can also reduce the size of the areola for a more proportional appearance.

A breast lift can be combined with other procedures to change the size of your breasts. For larger, fuller breasts, you may consider breast augmentation with a breast lift, referred to as mastopexy augmentation. If you want smaller breasts, you might consider breast reduction.

Breast lift candidacy

Am I a good candidate for a breast lift?

If you’re satisfied with the size of your breasts, but wish to change their appearance, you may be a good candidate for a breast lift. Over time, breasts may begin to sag due to aging, genetics, substantial weight loss, and often after pregnancy and breastfeeding. A common sign that you may benefit from a breast lift is if your nipples sit below the crease underneath your breasts, or if your nipples point down toward your feet.

During your consultation, we will discuss your goals and medical history to determine if a breast lift is the right fit for you. In order to qualify, you’ll need to be in good physical health and have realistic expectations for the results.

WITH A BREAST LIFT WE CAN FIX:

  • Sagging or drooping breasts

  • Flatter, elongated, pendulous, or ptotic breast shape

  • Downward-facing nipples and areolae

  • Stretched skin

  • Enlarged areolas

  • One breast that is lower than the other

About breast lift

Types of breast lift procedures

A breast lift can be achieved through different types of incision patterns, including peri-areolar, vertical, and full lift. The technique used depends on the degree of sagging and the amount of skin that must be removed. Your doctor will discuss the options with you to determine which one best suits your anatomy and goals.

For patients requiring minimal lifting, a circular incision is made around the areola. Since the incision traces the edge of the areola, the resulting scar is discrete.

A vertical lift involves two incisions: a circular incision around the areola and a vertical incision from the areola down to the breast crease. Ideal for moderate sagging, this approach allows your surgeon to reshape the breast tissue into a perkier, more youthful shape.

Some patients may require a more dramatic correction for a significant amount of sagging, which uses an inverted T or anchor lift. This technique uses an anchor-shape incision, combining peri-areolar, vertical, and horizontal incisions lines, allowing for the most lift and reshaping. Overall, this is the most common breast lift.

Expectations

What to expect throughout your breast lift procedure

Breast lift surgery is an outpatient procedure that is typically performed under general anesthesia so that you remain pain-free and comfortable throughout the procedure. Most breast lifts take around two to three hours to complete, and you are able to return home the same day.

After the incisions are made, your surgeon will reshape the underlying breast tissue, reposition the nipple and areola higher on the breast mound, and remove excess skin. If necessary, enlarged areolas may be reduced in size. Once the lift is achieved, the incisions are meticulously closed to minimize scarring.

Breast lift recovery

Results and recovery process

The results of breast lift surgery are immediately visible, although the final results will appear over a few months as your body heals and the breasts settle into their new position. It’s normal to experience swelling, bruising, and soreness around your chest area after surgery. We use comprehensive pain control measures before and after surgery to enhance pain relief post-surgery.

You will need to take six weeks to recover, avoiding strenuous activities and heavy lifting during this time. Many patients return to work and daily activities after one week.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most patients are able to breastfeed after a breast lift. Although we use surgical techniques that preserve milk ducts and nipple sensation in order to maintain breastfeeding functionality, a small percentage of women (2%) are unable to produce milk whether they have undergone breast surgery or not.

The recovery time after breast lift surgery is approximately six weeks.

You can usually resume light activities, such as walking, after six weeks. You should avoid strenuous activities, such as exercising, for at least four to six weeks to allow for proper healing.

The results of a breast lift are long-lasting, with many patients enjoying a rejuvenated appearance for years. Factors such as aging and weight fluctuations can affect how long the results last. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and stable weight can help extend your results.

Initially, breast lift scars appear as raised, red lines, which will lighten and fade over time. They are typically concealed around the areola or along the breast crease, sometimes with a vertical line from the areola down to the breast fold, depending on the technique used.

While a breast lift doesn’t significantly reduce breast volume, some patients notice a slight reduction in cup size due to the removal of excess skin and tissue. If this is a concern, we can discuss combining your breast lift with augmentation.
