About vaser liposuction

What is VASER liposuction?

VASER® Liposuction is an advanced body contouring procedure that uses ultrasound technology to selectively target and remove excess fat cells. VASER stands for Vibration Amplification of Sound Energy at Resonance.

Commonly known as Ultrasound-Assisted Liposuction, VASER liposuction is a two-part process. First, ultrasonic sound waves are used to disrupt the bonds between fat cells, making them easier to remove. The fat is then suctioned out with minimal disturbance to surrounding tissues, giving you smoother, more sculpted contours with less pain and recovery time compared to traditional liposuction.

Vaser liposuction candidacy

Am I a good candidate for VASER liposuction?

During your consultation, we will make sure that you are a good candidate for VASER liposuction. Ideally, your BMI should be 32 or less. Liposuction is not a weight loss fix, and patients should be committed to a healthy lifestyle to maintain postsurgical results. If you are looking for a weight loss solution, then, we will incorporate a multi-modality plan of weight loss with GLP-1 medication and then liposuction. It’s important that you are generally healthy, don’t smoke, and have firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone to achieve the best results.

Most patients choose to undergo liposuction when they are struggling with stubborn excess fat deposits in areas that don’t respond to diet or exercise, such as the abdomen, chest, or the flanks.

WITH VASER LIPOSUCTION, WE CAN FIX:

  • Stubborn, excess fat from specific areas

  • Loose, sagging skin - with combination procedures of VASER® and Renuvion®

  • Lack of muscle definition

  • The appearance of cellulite

  • Irregular body contours or “divots” that can occur with traditional liposuction

  • Certain areas that are out of proportion with the rest of your body

About VASER liposuction

VASER vs traditional liposuction

VASER liposuction offers several advantages over traditional methods. Traditional liposuction relies on manual suction to remove fat, which can sometimes lead to uneven results or a longer recovery period due to trauma to the surrounding tissues.

Since VASER liposuction uses ultrasound energy to liquify fat deposits, they are easier to remove with less damage to nearby tissue, reducing blood loss, pain, and bruising. This also allows for smoother, more refined body sculpting. Unlike traditional liposuction, VASER is able to tighten the skin and it’s one of the few procedures that has been shown to improve cellulite.

Studies have compared VASER liposuction to traditional liposuction and found VASER liposuction resulted in:

  • Faster Recovery

  • Less Swelling and Bruising

  • Decreased Pain

  • Safer procedure due to less blood loss

Expectations

What to expect throughout your VASER liposuction procedure

VASER liposuction is performed under anesthesia to make the procedure as comfortable as possible. This procedure can be safely performed under general or local anesthesia. Your surgeon will discuss these options with you during your consultation and determine which type of anesthesia is best for you.

During surgery, we will inject the treatment area with tumescent to minimize pain and bleeding. Through a small incision, we will treat the fat cells with ultrasound energy and gently remove them using suction, leaving the surrounding tissues undisturbed. The surgery can take anywhere from one to three hours, depending on the number and size of treated areas.

Our team will discuss the procedure in detail with you during your pre-operative appointments.

VASER liposuction recovery

Results and recovery process

VASER liposuction minimizes trauma to the body, allowing for a faster recovery. Initial post-surgery recovery typically takes about one week. Most patients are able to return to work after four to five days, depending on their job and the extent of the procedure.

Your surgeon may prescribe pain medication, but most patients transition off of them after two to three days after surgery. You will also be given a compression garment to wear to help reduce swelling and optimize healing.

Healing from swelling gradually decreases over the six to twelve weeks. Once the initial swelling and fluid retention subsides, you’ll be able to see your enhanced body contours.

Frequently Asked Questions

You may be a good candidate for VASER liposuction if you're near your ideal weight but struggling with stubborn fat in specific areas that don't respond to diet and exercise. Ideal candidates are in good overall health, have good skin elasticity, and have realistic expectations about the results that liposuction can provide.

Due to its minimally invasive nature, most patients report mild pain or discomfort for the first week following VASER liposuction. In studies, VASER liposuction resulted in less pain than traditional liposuction.  Your doctor may prescribe painkillers to help with any soreness or discomfort.

The results from VASER liposuction are considered permanent if patients maintain their weight. Significant weight gain can impact the results.

VASER liposuction offers superior fat removal results and a smoother recovery process compared to traditional liposuction. By using ultrasound technology to break up the fat, VASER liposuction allows for more precise extraction and minimizes damage to surrounding tissues, leading to less pain and a quicker recovery. However, traditional liposuction might still be better for removing larger volumes of fat.

In general, most patients lose about two to five pounds in total when full body liposuction or Lipo360 is performed. The amount of fat removed will depend on your body weight and body fat percentage. However, patients should remember VASER liposuction focuses on body contouring and should not be considered a weight loss solution.

The average recovery time following VASER liposuction is about one week. Most patients are able to return to work in a few days after the procedure.

Hi Def lipo refers to the meticulous and artistic nature of sculpting the body along the natural muscular anatomy.  Hi definition liposuction utilizes VASER to create shadowing and contrast - thus highlighting and “defining” body shape.  The degree of definition depends on the muscle tone and the patient’s goals.   A great example is highlighting the abdomen, where we can sculpt a soft pilates abdomen to a “hard” “6-pack” abs.

As with any surgical procedure, liposuction leaves scarring. The incisions used for VASER liposuction are typically very small and placed in discrete areas. With proper care, scars will fade significantly over time and are typically inconspicuous after a year.
